imported e-mails from outlook when Mozilla initially installed last year all these e-mails are obsolete and I have tried every which way to delete them all to an avail and the 595 e-mails double, treble, quadruple etc and I then have a mail box with thousands of e-mails I don't want, making the system overloaded and very very slow.
Help please.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open mail box always 594 unread e-mails
2. Mail box then enlarges over time
3. Mail box gets so large that Mozilla freezes and have to close down pc and start again

Actual Results:
recurring problem that haven't been able to solve and am very **** off as a result!

Expected Results:
Need cure and advise to solve problem outlined above.

Help me sort out this problem, please.
Please give me step by step details as to how to resolve this problem.
Thanks.
Bugzilla is not a tech support forum, but try this:

1. Delete a single message from the mailbox.
2. using the right mouse button, pick compact this folder from the mailbox context menu.
3. Delete the messages you want to delete.

If this doesn't prevent the messages from coming back, shut down Thunderbird, go find the .msf file for the mailbox in question (e.g., Inbox.msf) and delete it. It will be in your user profile directory, something like c:\documents and settings\<user name>\application data\thunderbird\profiles\<xxxx.slt>\Mail\<server name>\inbox.msf

Then, restart and see if the problem goes away.
Tech support links can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/support/, and if you forget in the future it's the first link ("get help with your mozilla.org product") on the Bugzilla home page.

Unless we can figure out what is different about your case this will eventually be closed "works for me".

Thank you to Mr David Bienvenu who identified what I needed to do to resolve the problem - deleteing the inbox.msf files (there were two of them), fingers crossed the 600 odd messages have been deleted for good now. Thunderbird is working efficiently for the first time.
Thank you again, David.
If you are ever in London, there is a cold beer waiting for you!
