Can you try running Mozilla 1.7 from http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7/contrib/mozilla-powerpc-ibm-aix5.1.0.0-1.7.tar.gz and look if this version has the same problem? Mozilla 1.4 is really old and many bugs were resolved since Mozilla 1.4 was released.
