Details

please feel free to edit the summary

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060315 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2006031512 [cairo]
this happens on branch and trunk

repro:
1.close all FF instances
2.open Firefox
3.immediately open 2 blank tabs
4.open Places
5.select any item form subscriptions (doubleclick to open)
6.immediately switch to the other tab
7.wait till Firefox locks up

result:
1.Firefox won't respont
2.the chrome and content turn all white, only the titlebar remains colored/visable
3.constant 100% cpu load

(it probably helps if you have a slower computer and large bookmarks_history.sqlite giving you more time to performe the above steps)
no messages in the errorconsole
Cconfirmed to exhibit the same behaviour on branch.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060316 Firefox/1.5 ID:2006031603

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
