User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1

Both Mozilla Thunderbird and Firefox went to their original defaults and now I have lost scads of mail from my last Thunderbird. I have saved the folder where I know my mail is. How do I place it in Thunderbird again??? I have seen this problem several times over the last few years but this is the first time Thunderbird did so; in the past Netscape had this same problem, and on different computers. Thanks.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Turn off computer
2.Reboot
3.

Actual Results:
Turn off computer
Reboot
Thunderbird decides to go back to an original install default.

Expected Results:
Tried finding the proper folder to place my old mail in; tried importing but no option I can see is valid.

Opened normally. My guess is it auto installed an update that bugged it out. Most frustrating.

Both applications can't find their profiles anymore, and have now created new (default) profiles. Here are some pointers how to find back the old data, and copy them to the new profiles.

Firefox : http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile
Thunderbird : http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/profile

Since you claim that both profiles are gone, I assume that you accidently deleted the profiles itself ?

The profiles disappeared when I did a soft boot and defaulted to their original install pages. All mail lost, all passwords lost, all addresses gone. I was doping nothing other than restarting my machine when Nero had a blip.

The same thing happened to me the other day 031806. I checked Norton log of any activity to explain but found nothing. This is clearly a Mozilla issue. I reported it as a bug #330629.

Louis, ever see this again? Did you look at the profile directories at the time to see if there was more than one profile there or remnants of any files of your original profile?
