Details

(Keywords: regression)

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060317 Firefox/1.6a1 ID:2006031723 [cairo]

repro:
1.Open browser
2.Open Places > Subscriptions
3.Select a feed
4.Wait for FF to load/refresh feedcontent (this may take a little while)

result:
100% cpu load lockup, the browser can only be killed

(same happens in -safe-mode)
I'm not sure if this actually regressed or has been there fromn the beginning.
I tried back till the 12th, same result.
I have 23 feeds and if I select them one by one the browser will allways lock up
It doesn't happen if I let the browser load the live bookmarks "in the background" (not selecting them via places)
simplified repro:
1.Open FF
2.Open Places
3.Select Subscriptions

it doesn't matter what you do after this, if you don't close Places the browser will lock up
Severity: major → critical
confirmed on branch:

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20060318 Firefox/2.0a1 ID:2006031803
this shouldn't live in FF 2.0a1 if we can avoid it
Severity: critical → blocker
Version: Trunk → unspecified
OS: Windows 2000 → All
Hardware: PC → All

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
