Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1

While troubleshooting a non-FF related issue, I noticed that this one setup will trigger an uncaught exception in the FF javascript console. I don't know if this poses a real problem or not, but since uncaught exceptions aren't generally a good thing, I'm submitting here. An example of the error message is below. The test case is attached.

------------------------------

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH) [nsIDOMHTMLFormElement.submit]" nsresult: "0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH)" location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/ffbug/FrontView%20-%20User%20%5Buser%5D%20connected%20to%20device_files/index_admin_body_data/Common.js :: Submit :: line 427" data: no]

Reproducible: Always

Test case that reproduces issue.

Extract zip to a directory and open root html file. Click on one of the green buttons on the bottom menu, and see results in javascript console.

I don't see this error in the JSconsole (with javascript.options.showInConsole to true).

Bah, didn't read it right. Yes, I see the error.

I had the same problem. It turned out that the value in the action attribute of the containing form was wrong and because of this it could not be opened and caused the exception.

I think I might be seeing the same issue. A customer sent me an HTML file he dumped to disk. It views perfectly fine under IE but under FF 2.0 I get:

Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... "File error: Unrecognized path" nsresult: "0x80520001 (NS_ERROR_FILE_UNRECOGNIZED_PATH)" location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Tzabari_Gili/Local%20Settings/Temporary%20Internet%20Files/OLK741/RequestMOBIserverAdmin.htm :: <TOP_LEVEL> :: line 20" data: no]

I checked that the file exists. If I enter the aforementioned path in IE it opens up just fine. Should I file a separate bug or is this the same issue?

Bug could also be reproduced on Debian GNU/Linux 3.1 with "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9a2pre) Gecko/20070102 Minefield/3.0a2pre" and "Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.1.1) Gecko/20061208 Firefox/2.0.0.1".

Martijn, so what's the expected result for a testcase like that?
I don't know, IE7 is going to the missing page.
