mozilla.test.multimedia just showed up as deleted on news.mozilla.org.
I've opened a ticket with Giganews.

Giganews apparently has a configuration or application error in the way news.mozilla.org was set up, and people are apparently managing to get to non-mozilla binary groups through our server. They've temporarily removed binary groups as a class from our virtual server until they track down and correct the error. The group still exists, it's just not accessible from our server (or anywhere else at this point), and should be restored with articles intact as soon as they figure out where the hole is and fix it.

FWIW, the mailing list still works; so subscribers can temporarily turn on mail delivery.
Text posts will even still show up on Google...freaky. :-)

Update from Giganews, the problem has been found (they think) and code is being tested now, if all works out, we should have everything back later this evening.
Maximum connection count is also being dropped from 10 to 3. (I'm working on getting an exception list set up for the usual offices behind firewalls)

They don't have a way to do per-IP exceptions currently, so they're going to leave this at 10 per IP for the time being.

Update from Giganews: problem isolated, code pushed. They're going to let it run overnight to test it live to make sure before they re-enable binary groups. It should be available tomorrow morning.

For all useful purposes, the group is still non-existent. The download rate for binaries is so slow (typically 4k/interval on a cable connection) that the newsgroup is virtually unusable. One second 4k bytes timeslices of a 500k post is useless for large post testing. Please re-open this bug.

mozilla.test.multimedia exists on news.mozilla.org, so this bug is fixed. You should file a separate bug report.
