User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.1) Gecko/20060111 Firefox/1.5.0.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.5 (20051201) (en-US) failed to change default application (mail) in general preferences Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: details of BUG: a) startup of thunderbird: dialog: yes/no "Do you want to use Mozilla Thunderbird as the default mail application?" --> click "yes" on next startup of thunderbird same question occures... b) thunderbird menu : in menu: Tools --> Options Tab: General Default Settings: Make Thunderbird the default application for: --> Opt: Mail Opt: News Opt: RSS Feeds select Opt: Mail will not save the settings! NOTE: for a) and b) Windows XP Professional "system preferences" "internetoptions" Tab: programs e-mail: --> program is correctly set to "Mozilla Thunderbird" simple bug fix for me: 1. add administrative group temporarly to the user member groups 2. login as user 3. change settings --> make thunderbird as default mail application from a) or b) 4. logout as user 5. remove administrative group from user member groups 6. login as user --> problem is solved on startup of mozilla thunderbird (additional steps to reproduce:) 7. close mozilla thunderbird 8. make another mail application to defaut 9. start mozzilla thunderbird --> change of default mail application failed!! --> to fix it i have to use step 1. to 6. NOTE: this does not appear on first run on thunderbird! Actual Results: change default application (mail) did not succed Expected Results: change default application (mail) should succed for all windows users detailed OPERATING SYSTEM description: OS: Windows XP Professional (german) User: Mainuser (in german XP it is called "Hauptbenutzer") Userrights: FULL access to Thunderbird user folder
