To me, "recently updated" means an addon that was already on the site, but has had a new version added to it. "New" could either refer to addons that are totally new (weren't on the site before,) or it could refer to addons that are totally new, AND addons that have been updated. I don't see any reason why someone would want to watch recently updated addons. They will recieve updates to their addons through their application's update system. I could see people wanting to watch for totally new addons though - so they can try new stuff. So for now, I'd suggest we remove the "recently updated" feed, and just have the "new" one. Perhaps sometime down the track a RFE could be filed to add a "totally new" feed.. although there'd need to be a nicer name for it I think.
I've fixed the newest to go off of the right date column (date added instead of date updated). That will be fixed after the next push. As for the names of the lists, that's open to more discussion so I'll leave this open for now.

Ever confirmed: true
Summary: No difference between newest and recently updated feeds → Make RSS feeds more useful and easier to understand
Morgamic: Will there be any difference in the updated and new feeds after the next update? If not, then we should get rid of one of them.
They should be different and updated right now.
Okay.. I can now confirm that they're different. This is a step in the right direction :D Some completely new addons are appearing in the "updated" feed, and some aren't. :s Eg. Page Title Eraser 0.1.5 and del.icio.us Complete 0.6.1 both appear in the "Updated" Firefox extensions feed, even though only one version of them is on the site. Broadband Speed Test and Diagnostics 1.0 however, does not appear in the updated Firefox extensions feed.
Marking FIXED, by the standard of the original bug description. Cameron: can you file specific bugs on the cases of things missing from the RSS feeds, so we can diagnose what's happening there?
