User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2

I have my settings to be notified of Firefox update but both times now (1.5 > 1.5.0.1 and 1.5.0.1 > 1.5.0.2) it has auto-updated with me having no control over it. The first time I was in the middle of browsing and suddenly a box popped up saying it was updating, and the second time I go to start Firefox and it instead updates.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install 1.5 or 1.5.0.1
2. Go to Options > Advanced > Update and set "When updates to Firefox are found:" to "Ask me what I want to do"
3. Browse around until Firefox auto-updates
(Note you might have trouble doing this as Firefox seems to auto-update on start-up before you can change settings. Perhaps disable internet connection, then open Firefox)

Actual Results:
Firefox forces auto-update.

Expected Results:
A dialog box should pop-up telling me an update has been found and asking if I want to apply it.

On a related note Extensions are not auto-updated correctly, however I am not notified when Firefox finds an update, and have to manually check my extensions list every so often to see if an update has been found. There should be a pop-up dialog, or (more preferable for me) an icon that shows in the toollbar or somewhere to indicate available Extension updates.

Hm, this seems to happen indeed.
It works well when updating 1.5 to 1.5.0.2 so it is only a regression in 1.5.0.1.
WFM from 1.5.0.1 (with modification of app.update.interval and .timer so that it checks more rapidly).

Could you provide a screenshot of all the app.update prefs from about:config ?
(In reply to comment #6)

That looks very similar to what I have, except for the timestamps of course. Could you try your steps to reproduce when starting Firefox in safe mode (http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode). That'll rule out extensions doing something unhelpful.
Annoyingly I just failed to reproduce it, both in safe mode and with all extensions activated. (I uninstalled then installed 1.5.0.1) However after mentioning the bug to a friend he informed me he had also encountered the same problem yesterday, with no extensions installed (Also running XP).
The screenshot of comment #2 is from a test in a new clean profile without extensions (first run) but the problem is that I couldn't repeat it once more with exactly the same profile and the same build. And it must be reproducible for programmers in order to fix it.
I downgraded to 1.5.0.4 and unchecked it to search for updates. Five miuntes later I was told when the browser restarts it would re-upgrade to 1.5.0.6. So essentially this option does absolutely nothing. Please fix it! :-)
