A tentative or cancelled event should be faded or somehow distinguished from a confirmed event.  
* A tentative event should be distinguished from the others so the user sees a reminder (the reminder would be a different colored event box) to confirm the event with someone beforehand, if necessary.  
* A cancelled event should be distinguished from the others so the user still has a record of the cancelled event, but it doesn't get in the way of events that are still ongoing.
