Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060415 Firefox/3.0a1
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9a1) Gecko/20060415 Firefox/3.0a1

After editing the Places/Bookmarks...Closing the build, doing a near clean install..keeping the bookmarks and some of the extensions info for extensions, the new install does not see the new Entries in the bookmarks only what was in them to start....This is NEW to me...I have never had this happen.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Uninstall to update, removing all excepting Extension and Bookmarks.html in the application data directory.
2.Install The new Build...
3.Places is back to what you started with and you have lost all the NEW bookmarks you have added since upgrading to Places.

Actual Results:
Does not remember NEW Bookmarks on a Clean Install with older or a Backed up Bookmarks.html file.

Expected Results:
To Remember and KEPP all NEW entries into my bookmarks....and updating the bookmarks.html file with added data.

Places uses bookmarks_history.sqlite to store your bookmarks now. So if you delete bookmarks_history.sqlite, it will reimport your old bookmarks from bookmarks.html.

Yes it may, but that is not specified anywhere...the sqlite is mentioned...but what happens on a fresh or near fresh install....The bookmarks.html file needs to be updated too....otherwise everytime someone does this...they will find they have lost any changes they made...Updating the html file would best suit this so that changes are reflected and not lost...some may revert to the releases not using places.
I'm calling this a dupe of the bug to delete bookmarks.html to avoid this confusion. You might also see bug 327894 for making periodic automatic backups of your bookmarks in HTML format.

Again..the Information provided does not match what I have siad...

Test: Move some Bookmarks around....take some place into a new subfolder...change the name of one....add a bookmark....remove your bookmarks.sqlite, they Vanish....going back to the Original HTML setup..the incrementals or full updates should WRITE into the HTML bookmarks...since all changes are in the sqlite format.....it keeps the changes....but not on the HTML.

Suggestion on install..a way it says....checking bookmarks....updating....deleting your bookmarks.html......please make a backup of your new Bookmarks.sqlite....your new Install is ready to use..

Problem....if you want to EDIT this....you can not....Unless Firefox is installed.
I know what you said. We aren't using bookmarks.html any more, we won't keep it up to date, and we should delete it. If you delete your sqlite file, you are deleting your bookmarks. In this case, Firefox thinks you're upgrading and re-imports your old bookmarks. We will be doing periodic backups to html format if your .sqlite file gets corrupted or deleted.
Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
