335097 - Browser doesn't open newsgroup message either immediately after Thunderbird startup or after some attachment of previous message has been open with external program

Right after Thunderbird is started if some newsgroup is open, whatever message is selected, it's content is not shown (browser pane remains blank) and the message itself is not marked as read. Double-clicking on it opens a standalone message browser window that is blank too. The only way I found to get it work is selecting news server itself in the left (subscriptions) pane and right after that reopening a newsgroup and selecting any message again. The like issue is that right after some message attachment is right-clicked and "Open" pop-up menu item is selected, the next (not necessarily next by order) unread message that is tried to open isn't shown in the browser pane again (browser pane is blank; double-clicking on the message opens standalone message browser window that is blank too), however it's marked as read, and the message after that (not necessarily next by order) is normally open and displayed in the browser pane. The former issue is observed only in Thunderbird 2.0a1 branch while the latter is observed in Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 too.

Steps to Reproduce:
To reproduce first reported issue (Thunderbird 2.0a1 only):
1. Start Thunderbird.
2. Right after it's started expand one of news servers and select arbitrary newsgroup. Note, that no message in newsgroup just open isn't still selected despite for you've just open newsgroup!
3. Now try selecting some newsgroup message and note that despite for message selection it's not displayed in the browser pane and doesn't become marked as read. Now whatever message in that group you select it's still not displayed
and not marked as read.
4. Now in the leftmost pane select news server itself and right after select the same newsgroup. Note that now message is displayed.

To reproduce second reported issue:
1. Open message with attachments.
2. Right-click on arbitrary attachment and select "Open" from the pop-up menu. After the open attachment dialog appears you can do what you wish and close that dialog.
3. Now proceed to the next unread message and watch it's not displayed while stil marked as read.
4. Proceed to the next unread message. Watch it's displayed normally.

Note that in Thunderbird 1.5.0.2 the second issue is shown not every time, at some obscure points that issue is not shown.

Obviously the next unread newsgroup message should be displayed regardless of what was done with the previous message.

The symptoms sound similar to those of bug 312938.  When you get into the initial state where you can't display a message, does hitting F8 twice (to collapse and re-expand the message pane) solve the problem?

No, pressing F8 twice doesn't help. BTW, beginning with Thunderbird 2.0a1 from April, 18 new, unread messages can be displayed from the initial state, while old, read messages still can't.

I believe this is the same as bug 365016.  Altho that's a newer bug, it's confirmed, so if you agree it's the same, please dupe this bug to that one.
