User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060404 SeaMonkey/1.0.1 Mnenhy/0.7.3.0
Build Identifier: thunderbird version 1.5.0.2 (20060308)

I have Thunderbird configured with [View > Layout > Wide View].

While reading messages in a newsgroup, I might either read all of the messages or mark the rest of the newsgroup at "All Read". I notice that other newsgroups in the same server account with unread messages will suddenly switch from bold to plain and their counts of unread messages go blank.

To restore the indications of unread messages, I have to close the server account and then reopen it.

Reproducible: Sometimes

When this happens, not all newsgroups are affected.

When this happens, the messages in the affected newsgroups are not actually marked as "read". Only the list of newsgroups in the upper-left pane is affected.
I see this happening as well. It is not consistent so it's not reproducible.

Lately, TB seems to be "losing" its knowledge of unread posts. When I
first open TB, I click on the + sign next to the forum server name. It
opens the list of subscribed forums and begins scanning for new posts.
It finds a number of forums that do have new posts and shows the forum
and the number of unread in bold.

When I start viewing the messages, it seems that TB suddenly "forgets"
there are unread messages in some of the forums further down in the
list. They revert to normal text and the number of unread disappears.
I have to close and reopen the account to scan for unread messages again.
I'm seeing this even when not all mesages in the current newsgroup are read. It appears that this problem might be triggered by replying to a message. However, I'm not sure whether this is really true or (if it is true) at what point of the reply process this happens. In any case, it affects newsgroups later in the list for the current server. It does not seem to affect earlier newsgroups.

Removing "All" from the Summary.

Summary: Reading All Messages in a Newsgroup Causes Other Newsgroups to Indicate "All Read" → Reading Messages in a Newsgroup Causes Other Newsgroups to Indicate "All Read"
My conjecture in comment #2 was false. Merely selecting a message to read in one newsgroup caused the following newsgroup to suddenly have the indication of no unread messages.
