Crash Data
Commerical build: 2000032800 M15 Beta branch
After installing the beta software, use an existing profile or create a new
profile, load a url that contains a java applet. The browser crashes. Restart
the Mac and then load the same url and the applet loads successfully. Looks
like the problem where the applet always crashed is fixed. However, we now have
a variation on the theme where the applet crash the first time java is used but
is ok after that.
Steps:
1. Intall the beta software
2. If you do not have a profile, create one.
3. Click on an previously created profile or one that was just created.
4. Start the browser
5. Load the following url http://www.livetrade.com
6. Browser crashes
7. Restart Mac
8. Click on the profile that was previously used
9. Start browser and launch the url http://www.livetrade.com
10. Applet loads without a problem

build.

Turned activation off, still crashes.
Comment 4•25 years ago

per PDT, does the crash hit only once after you've installed, and then is it ok
every time after that? If so, we can release note that for beta1. We need to
have a really high bar for respin right now.

Phil, the crash occurs the first time an applet is encountered. It then seems
to load subsequent applets.

i'm actually going to leave this assigned to george - there's some policy,
networking, etc etc that has to go on to establish some process that involves
embedding with the netscape build process.. etc. etc.
paw: is this still happening with daily commercial builds? If so, then we
should re-visit this after M16 or after the MRJ plugin is part of the nightly
build (Patrick took on that bug).

No longer crashing as of build 2000050820 but the stock symbols are not being
displayed in the applet.

my build against yesterday's closed tree displays the stock ticker ok... ? the
daily build is doing the plugin, yes? is it building MRJPlugin(GC) or MRJInABox?

Doesn't look like it. Dates for the plugins are March 24.

:-( ... (the version id would be a give away as well - it builds with a
"1.1eqd2" in the get info box now)...
any word on when the builds might start including the plugin?

I see your mark. Talked to Patrick Beard, should in the build sometime this
week.

It seems unclear to me whether this bug requires either of a "developer" or
"user" release note for Netscape 6 RTM. If anyone feels it does, can they please
draft one and then nominate with the relnote-user or relnote-devel strings in
the Status Whiteboard.
Thanks :-)

This is a topcrasher for the official RTM build on Mac. Adding topcrash keyword
and [@ OTClientLib + 0x85c] for tracking. This crash shows up under a couple of
topcrash stack signatures (0xffc10008 and 0xffc10000). Here is the latest stack
trace:

This is more like the #2 topcrash for Mac. It is showing up under the following
stack signatures in large numbers: 0xffc10008, 0xffc10000 and 0xffc10004 (all of
which I believe are related to the AppleJava stack signature). Here are some

I think this is actually two seperate bugs. The 2nd stack trace seems quite
different from the 1st and the descriptions don't all mention Java. It could be
something in the SSL/security code. Do we have anyone internally that has been
testing SSL? If so I'd like to know if they can repro any of the crashes and if
so try with the debug version of the OT libs to see if we get a useful debug
assert rather than a crash. The OT debug libs can be found at <ftp://
ftp.apple.com/developer/Development_Kits/OpenTransport/OT2.7.4/

junruh - do you see this crash? If so, can you try the newer files?

I'm seeing bug 70790 "Freeze/crash when I download a personal certificate", but
I'm not seeing any crashes on my java testing page -

if the tester doesn't see a problem, then I'm inclined to think that the bug has
been fixed in the last year. Marking as WORKSFORHIM. Perhaps this will help
get an up-to-date bug report, or crash report at the very least.
