I am unable to send e-mail from my wife's secondary account on verizon.net because there is no way to switch identities.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.Attempt to send e-mail from secondary account
2.
3.
Actual Results:
E-mail bounced by outgoing server because not authorized
Expected Results:
Should have provided a mechanism to switch user so the secondary account could use the outgoing server. **** Outlook Express does this!!!

not sure what you mean - in the compose window, you can switch to any identity you want, and in the account settings, you can switch the smtp server associated with a given account, by selecting the account name, and changing the outgoing mail server.

There have been many complaints that Verizon has authentication problems with Thunderbird. Mozillazine even suggests that Verizon wont support Thunderbird! I have found the problem and the work around.
Fill in the new account in the normal way. Outgoing server details must include use name and password with the box checked.
The natural next step is to send an email to oneself to test the connection. Any attempt to send email gets an authentication error returned from Verizon. No amount of changes to the setup cures this, Note, no password pop-up.
Work around: First click on Get Mail. Although there is none yet, a password will be asked for. Check Remember password. NOW try and send mail. The password pop-up will appear again and the password must be re-entered. The mail is not sent.
Now everything works properly. Since Microsoft uses open password fill in Verizon help is baffled because one cannot see any difference between accounts that work and those that don't. I don't know why the receive/send order is so important but that is the clue. Perhaps you could make the password pop-up appear with the first sent even if a get mail has not been done. This is a serious problem and is getting both Verizon and Thunderbird a bad rap. I would put something in Mozillazine but I don't know how to do it.
Incidentally, ctrl shift 'T' works much faster than 'Get Mail' and asks fewer questions. Nobody can tell me why. Any clue?
Chris.
p.s. I worked about 7 hours on this problem so I would appreciate a response. I will try and let Verizon tech support know the cure.
