Those of us that can't remember a million smiley codes for our various IM applications and various online forum software would much appreciate some UI to select smileys - looking at http://www.hacksrus.com/~ginda/chatzilla/faq/#emoticons every time you want something other than :) :( ;) :P :S or :D isn't my ideal solution, and in any case, the descriptions don't exactly match my interpretations of the images - a picture says a thousand words :)

Possible suggestions:
After typing  ":" and a delay of a fraction of a second, popup a box with smileys which can be accessed via keyboard or mouse. 

Could also use "(" for the above suggestion - that's how Msn Plus does it, although most msn emoticons begin with ( while most chatzilla smileys begin with :

Could also have a little box with a dropdown menu somewhere.. but I'm not sure where would be a convenient place.
