User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.2) Gecko/20060308 Firefox/1.5.0.2 Build Identifier: Mozilla Thunderbird version 1.5 (20060309) This happens every few days, so I ran an strace from start until crash. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: See strace below. 1. Start Thunderbird, compose long email 2. Alt-tab between that email window 3. It may be related to copying and pasting (i.e., in linux: select and middle-click) content between the two windows. 4. Be patient, crash will come at most inopportune time. Actual Results: Crash -- all thunderbird windows disappear. No error messages. Additional info: this is on 64 bit thunderbird (Kubuntu x64) and a 32 bit Firefox with Macromedia Flash plugin. (Flash isn't running when crash occurs.) Only Thunderbird crashes. Also, I use the automatic focus change in KDE. (I.e., I move the pointer to another window which automatically gains focus.) It may or may not be related to focus change or copying and pasting. See attachment for stack trace.

Unix-format text file. (Use wordpad.exe/write.exe under Windows to see the line endings properly.)
Comment on attachment 221724 [details] useless congratulations, you just straced a shell. please don't ever post an strace unless someone explictly requests /bin/strace or /usr/bin/strace or wherever it lives. we want *stack* traces, they come from debuggers, things like gdb. if you built mozilla yourself, then http://www.mozilla.org/unix/debugging-faq.html would help you, if not then hopefully you installed a mozilla.org build, in which case you could have selected to install talkback, if you chose not to install talkback, reinstall and select talkback. when you crash, talkback will run, ask you for permission to send data to our servers, and if you let it, it might be so nice as to give you an incident id, which you can in turn give to us.

Attachment #221724 - Attachment is obsolete: true
note that in comment 0 you claim no error messages. however your strace tells me that had you run thunderbird from a shell, it should have given you an error message saying that it crashed (this isn't particularly useful, you rightly guessed that it crashed).

Any luck in getting a useful stack trace? Is this still an issue?
