After updating firefox, firefox does not start. I tried to run it from the Quick Launch shortcut, but a dialog pops up saying. "firefox.exe is not a valid Win32 application." I then had to reinstall a new copy from the ftp server.

I dont see any reason why this should depend on 335894.
It also isn't dataloss as per the definition of the keyword. You haven't lost any data that you mention.
What build of firefox were you updating from and to?

1. It actually does depend on bug 335894 since that bug doesn't restart the app, and that after launching manually it damages the fx installation.
2. Yes, it is dataloss since the updater removes the pulp from firefox.exe and everything in that directory.
3. I was updating from yesterday's build to today's build (trunk).

Update!!!

In the help menu, where there is Check for updates, instead there is Apply Downloaded Update Now option. I now know that this is causing the problem this bug reports.

OK, deleting localstore.rdf and all that other stuff fixed the problem.
