It would be helpful if NEW MAIL was always indicated in other accounts.  The current icon is only visible during the session it was received.  If tbird is exited and restarted, the new mail indication is not present.

Please consider New Mail this session - RED.
New Mail, unread from previous sessions, yellow.
No new mail, the current representation.

There are reasons why all mail is NOT read in a given session.  It would be helpful to know when you return you have mail in other accounts.

The "new" indicator never persists across sessions.

Unread mail is indicated in the folder (but not at the account level, if you have the account collapsed).  See bug 57486, bug 235956.

Since 1.5 supports saved-search folders, you could create a saved search for all (or unread) messages that searches in the inboxes of all your accounts (see bug 353835 comment 1).  Note, however, that there are some glitches with multi-source search folders consistently updating the bold/not-bold appearance depending on the unread state of the messages.
