(In reply to comment #1) > Has this continued to be a problem? > No. The problem with Thunderbird resolved when I upgraded it. Now I get a message re. illegal operation when I update my Antivirus program (Antivir) I just close the pop up and continue. No freeze up or further problem. I forwarded the following to Antivir: AVNOTIFY caused an invalid page fault in module MSVCR71.DLL at 0167:7c34a104. Registers: EAX=00650078 CS=0167 EIP=7c34a104 EFLGS=00010246 EBX=54b3feee SS=016f ESP=0063fce0 EBP=0063fcfc ECX=543d4552 DS=016f ESI=0076b99c FS=32cf EDX=0000b9a0 ES=016f EDI=00000001 GS=0000 Bytes at CS:EIP: 8b 13 89 55 f4 8b 56 fc 89 55 f8 8b 55 f4 f6 c2 Stack dump: 00000000 0000001c 0076b9a0 006503c0 7c38b328 7c342139 543d4552 0063fd40 7c347995 0075000c 0076b9a0 0000001c 0040d7d8 00000000 6b028d68 5dd417d7 Someone told me that Microsoft Windows will give you this message whenever you are not using their antivirus programs. Sounds possible, but I'm skeptical. Since I use Win 98 SE what do they care!?

OK. > Someone told me that Microsoft Windows will give you this message whenever you > are not using their antivirus programs. Sounds possible, but I'm skeptical. > Since I use Win 98 SE what do they care!? That seems like a very unlikely explanation. The error is from whatever AVNOTIFY is -- part of the software you have installed, more likely.
