Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.0.3) Gecko/20060426 Firefox/1.5.0.3
Build Identifier: Thunderbird 2.0a1 (Windows/20060607) and Thunderbird 1.5.0.4 (Windows/20060516)

In the Link Properties dialog, the Link Location field looks like a menulist but isn't. So it does not work as expected:

 - Pressing down-arrow does not open the popup or change the selection.

 - Making a selection does not enable the dialog's OK button.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Write a new HTML e-mail.
2. Type some text and make it a heading (or anything that can be the target of a link).
3. Choose Insert - Link... and go to the Link Location field.
4. Try to open the popup using the keyboard.
5. Use your mouse to select a target, then try to press the OK button.

Actual Results:
Steps 4 and 5 fail.

Expected Results:
If it looks like a menulist, then it should work like a menulist. It should be possible to use the control with the keyboard alone.

A workaround is to type some garbage in the field to enable the OK button, then use your mouse to make a selection that overwrites the garbage. But this does not work for everyone, according to http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2306541#2306541

Workaround: Alt+Down opens the list, at which point Down can be used to
navigate it. Of course, if there are no named anchors, there's nothing to navigate to.

This field is unusual in that it allows both selection from the menu and direct keyboard entry. However, another example of such a field is found in the Advanced Property Editor -- the Attribute dropdown at the bottom accepts
typing, but the down-arrow does open the list. (This is counter the behavior
of many menulists elsewhere, where the downarrow changes the selection without opening the list.)

That's bug 219662. Resummarizing this bug for the first problem; moving to Core, as this happens in Seamonkey as well. (Also happens in Seamonkey
Composer and in NVu.)

I added some named anchors, but even then Alt-Down does not do anything. Naturally, the original problems described by Rod continue to exist.

Thunderbird 52.0.1 (32-bit)
Windows 7 64-bit
