Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060608 Ubuntu/dapper-security Firefox/1.5.0.4
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060608 Ubuntu/dapper-security Firefox/1.5.0.4

Hit that URI; firefox eats 100% cpu for about 10 seconds.

Note that it does this even if the image is in the cache (I used LiveHTTPHeaders to verify that it was not re-loading image).

Note that a page-refresh causes the behavior to repeat.

Note that it does NOT do this if the same image is downloaded and viewed as a file:// uri.

I saw the same behavior in previous FF, and in previous installs of my OS (Ubuntu).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. hit http://www.ssec.wisc.edu/data/east/latest_eastvis.gif
2. watch cpu meter
3. repeat as desired :-)

Actual Results:
After 7-10 seconds, normal cpu usage returns.

WFM.
Can you reproduce this in an official Mozilla build of Firefox?

Yes, I can.

I moved my ~/.mozilla out of the way, downloaded the current/latest Firefox, and ran it. With a completely fresh profile (no extensions, no user-set preferences) the same behavior occurs, with all details that I've written above.
Can you give the build identifier of the Firefox you used please?

I don't know how to find "build identifier" but if I take the string from the About Box, this is it:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4
