I've noticed that when sidebar comes up, it first paints random content before
painting what should be in it. I see this in the bookmarks window in particular.
The momentary contents it paints appear to be random stuff from other windows,
or the chrome of the current window. I'm guessing that it's just painting stuff
out of uninitialized backing store memory.
bug 34143 ?

Actually, I think this bug is referring to something different -- this bug
is about painting in 'random stuff from other windows'. Bug #34143 is basically
a problem with flowing the contents of the XUL for the tabs -- not random, just
wrong. Reopening this bug.

This bug is caused by 5569. Setting it to be a dependency on that bug.

Thouh the cause of this bug as is, is caused by 5569, I think this bug would go
away and would be much nicer user experience if in the XUL instead of saying
"about:blank" for the src attribute. We should say some local sidebar loading
file that basically says "Please wait while the sidebar content is loaded..." or
something like this. If specified in the src attribute, the chrome won't show
until this loads. It will also give a place holder and something other than
just a blank white or garbage screen for the user to look at. I'm therefore
flipping this bug to slamm to add that local sidebar file. Be not feared, 5569
still must be fixed for other places.

I fixed this to some degree. I have the sidebar show "loading..." while a panel
is loading. There is still a flash of black when you switch panels. That may be
caused by bug 5569.
I only see this on linux now. I see a black square painted where the iframes
are.

Been quite a while since i saw this. Is it still a bug?
WFM on a current Linux CVS build.
I'll second that WFM.
