User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS i86pc; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050726 Firefox/1.0.6 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; SunOS i86pc; en-US; rv:1.7.10) Gecko/20050726 Firefox/1.0.6 aside from go to next/previous message, there should be 'go to message number' in 'Go' menu allowing user to specify message to go to. Reproducible: Always an item could be added to 'Go' menu which would make a window appear on activation. next, there could be text field added to the main window which would allow specifying message number (it could be user-controllable whether the text field will be active or not)
How do you propose we number messages?

just use the number in 'Order received' column (just like mutt)

(In reply to comment #2) > just use the number in 'Order received' column (just like mutt) Hm, for News, "Order received" is just a message number (though some numbers may be missing) but for Mail (at least POP and Local Folders - don't know about IMAP) it's an offset into the mailbox (which changes when compacting, so a single mail message's "oder received" may change over time). Sanity checks would be needed. Selecting the message (by keyboard or mouse) in the list pane of the 3-pane window seems more obvious to me, and it's already available. WONTFIX?
I'm having a hard time imagining a good use case for this. What would motivate a user to want to do this?

What would > motivate a user to want to do this? +1 probably wontfix, to find out that exact number of the message (whatever number that might be), you'd have to look at the msg first to find out, or not? And then type a 10 digits number? So when you already look at it, why not just select it using mouse? Or even keyboard, with current behaviour we're beaming keyboard focus from whereever it is into the currently viewed section of msg list when you just move it using cursors or page up/dwn without selecting... anyway, no reply -> incomplete
