Using Gecko/20060618 Minefield/3.0a1, dropping text on the new search button does not trigger search.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
But you can drag it into the search input.

I would expect text to drag into a text window, but not onto a button. Text can be dragged and dropped into the Search text window with no problem.

Dragging text onto the search button (the magnifying glass in the search input in the toolbar) does trigger a search, so resolving WFM.
