Typing in the subject line is awfully slow (maybe 1/2 sec lag between keystroke and character showing up in the subject). No such problems in other text entry boxes. Linux build 2000.04.01.09
Is this an editor thing? cc: beppe
Everytime you press a key (in fact when you realease it) into the subject line, the window title is updated. This has no performance impact on Window and Mac!
adding perf keyword
this should probably be looked at by pav
setting the title on unix sucks. i would recommend not doing it... or if you must, do it in batches... like after a person stops typing... set a timer and keep resetting it on keydown maybe?
I can make a few of the GetService calls return in to static variables which might help a *tiny* bit, but setting the title means you get to play the 'lets talk to the x server' game which then has to talk to the window manager, which then talks to the x server again... yay.
moving to m18
Mass-moving all bugs to M21 that are not dogfood+, nsbeta2+, or nsbeta2-
this needs to get fixed, but i don't really have time to look at it in great detail.
On my machine, this seems a lot faster now, it's hardly noticeably. So maybe we can WFM this. Otherwise, I suggest #ifdef'ing it out for X.
Looking at it, it seems to me like the changes to the titlebar are buffered now, and happen in batches instead of slamming X each time a key is hit. Pav, is this true? If so, it's fixed :)
I don't recall this being a real problem anymore. Is anyone still seeing this?
Marking WORKSFORME as per the last three comments, and this is normal for me too now.
VERIFIED on RedHat 7.0 build 2001021408.
