This is the trunk patch. The branch will need a small change to handle alpha transparency differently.

On Linux trunk, the page turns white (bgcolor) after the notification is added. Maybe there's an issue with canvas transparency. I see the platform is Mac, maybe that should be All?

Hasn't this bug been FIXED already (except for possible follow up bugs)? Anyway, please don't check in on the 1.8 branch without a fix for bug 347247 (blocking notifications might not be dismissable without a mouse).
