i have updated to the latest FRENCH THUNDERBIRD version.  Each time I open it, it asks whether I want Thunderbird to be my default mail software, though I have many  times said yes. It is not a bug as such, it causes no big trouble. I answer YES each time, and check "do no not display this message" and it is OK.

changing both values from 1 to 0 in HKLM/sofware/MT/desktop  solved the problem
definitely. Thanks to all contributors.
