In the new preference windows go to the Security tab. We have something like this for the Password group: [ ] Remember passwords for sites [Exceptions...] [ ] Use a master password [Set Master Password] [Show Saved Passwords] This button feels a bit out of place to me; I think it needs to go on the right below the "Set Master Password" button.
Jeff pointed out on IRC that this button could be moved up next to the "Remember passwords for sites" checkbox. I think this is a more logical and asthetically pleasing place for this button. Unfortunately, Jeff says we can't do this because of localizers. There are already lots of potentially pref. window-widening strings in the pref. dialog, so I don't think adding another one will hurt. Axel, thoughts?
http://whereswalden.com/files/mozilla/prefwindow/save-pwds-btn.png looks OK to me. If we were going to put them on the same line, we'd want "Exceptions..." to be beside the text, not "Show Passwords ...", and we'd want to do the same thing for cookies. But, I don't actually think that's a better solution than what's currently implemented in that screenshot.
Any change hurts by now, and changing the size of the preferences window is one of the most costly ones.. Beside that, show passwords is like the only thing in Firefox that I use the preferences dialog for, and I find that button cumbersomely hidden within stuff that I don't care about. I don't actually think this is a good idea.
