User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.4) Gecko/20060508 Firefox/1.5.0.4 If viewing about:config, and you've scrolled down vertically, and then resize the window, either horizontally or vertically, you pop back to the top of the config list. This doesn't happen on Seamonkey. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. view about:config 2. scroll down aways 3. resize the window, either horizontally or vertically Actual Results: config list pops back to the very top Expected Results: config list stays positioned to where it was before the window resize
It's not really scrolling to the top. What it is doing is scrolling the selected entry into view on resize. So if you scroll down and select an entry. And then resize you'll see that it doesn't scroll to the top.
But I didn't select any entry, there was an entry selected by default when it was opened. I had scrolled down and was looking at something else. The area of interest to me is what's visible, not what's selected, especially since I didn't select it.
If I avoid left clicking anywhere on the pref list and scroll just using the mouse wheel then no entry gets selected. And the list doesn't scroll when the window resizes. But as soon as the left mouse button gets pressed (i.e. the list gets focus) then the first entry automatically gets selected. This even includes using the scrollbar and the column headers. So there could be two things to change: Don't automatically select an entry when the list gets focus. And don't bother scrolling the selected entry into view on resize.

Summary: about:config, if you've scrolled vertically and resize window, you pop to top of config → about:config, if you've scrolled vertically and resize window, the selected entry needlessly gets scrolled into view
Reporter, do you still see this problem with the latest Firefox 2? If not, can you please close this bug as WORKSFORME. Thanks!

It hasn't changed on the trunk looking at today's nightly. I confirmed a corrected version of the behavior reported. But what I can't confirm is if this behavior should change. So we need a decision if this is a bug or a wontfix. In keeping with one issue per bug this bug should answer the question if scrolling the selected entry into view on resize is a wise thing to do. If the behavior of automatically selecting an entry in the list when the list gains focus needs to change then another bug can be filed.
Still happens in 2.0.0.4. Making it two bugs is a good idea. Personally I don't think anything should have a automatically selected entry when it's first opened, but the bug I was reporting is the unexpected, unwanted change of visible content when the screen is resized. I really can't think of anything else I've ever used that jumps to a selection when the screen is resized. When one's reading something and you resize you expect to continue to be somewhere in the neighborhood of where you were, not popped back to the beginning, or even some other place just because you clicked there. A normal browser window doesn't do this.
This isn't limited to about:config. I see in other places like the bookmarks manager. So I'm assuming this is a XUL bug.
