Details

Currently there are more than 2300 bugs in bugzilla that have no MileStone assigned to them. I am afraid that this situation leads to incorrect milestone planning. One possible solution would be to mass assign those bugs based on their severity: Critical & Blocker to current milestone (M15) Major to next (M16) Normal to M17 Below normal to M18 I believe this would lead to more sober view on number of issues opened for each Milestone.
tara@tequilarista.org is the new owner of Bugzilla and Bonsai. (For details, see my posting in netscape.public.mozilla.webtools, news://news.mozilla.org/38F5D90D.F40E8C1A%40geocast.com .)

Since this is specific to Mozilla's Bugzilla installation, re-assigning to dmose@mozilla.org.

This is actually specific to the browser project, I think, and I am not really the steward of those bugs. This should probably go to leger@netscape.com, but I think she's on sabbatical. So my best guess is that gramps would be a good person to decide what to do with this.

There are 366 non-tracking bugs ASSIGNED with no milestone in Moz. Someone should probably scan these, especially the older ones. http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=ASSIGNED&product=Architecture&product=Browser&product=Browser+Localizations&product=CCK&product=MailNews&product=NSS&product=PSM&target_milestone=---&short_desc=.*tracking+bug.*&short_desc_type=notregexp&keywords=meta&keywords_type=nowords&&order=bugs.bug_id There are 413 open bugs in Moz assigned to nobody@mozilla.org. In an ideal world these would probably be changed to the "Future" milestone. http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=ASSIGNED&bug_status=REOPENED&email1=nobody%40mozilla.org&emailtype1=substring&emailassigned_to1=1&target_milestone=--- There are 258 non-ASSIGNED open non-tracking bugs with no milestone in Moz which aren't enhancements, aren't assigned to nobody@mozilla.org and haven't been touched in 30 days. Of these, about 100 are UNCONFIRMED. http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/buglist.cgi?bug_status=UNCONFIRMED&bug_status=NEW&bug_status=REOPENED&resolution=---&bug_severity=blocker&bug_severity=critical&bug_severity=major&bug_severity=normal&bug_severity=minor&bug_severity=trivial&product=Architecture&product=Browser&product=Browser+Localizations&product=CCK&product=MailNews&product=NSS&product=PSM&target_milestone=---&short_desc=.*RFE*&short_desc_type=notregexp&keywords=meta&keywords_type=nowords&field0-0-0=short_desc&type0-0-0=notsubstring&value0-0-0=tracking+bug&field0-1-0=%28to_days%28now%28%29%29+-+to_days%28bugs.delta_ts%29%29&type0-1-0=greaterthan&value0-1-0=30&field0-2-0=assigned_to&type0-2-0=notequals&value0-2-0=nobody%40mozilla.org There's plenty of reasons for a lot of your 2300, but in my scans I definitely saw some that look old. I suspect this situation will improve now we have the Future milestone, as many people were relucantant to resolve REMIND or LATER.
Leger is the person who can say something intelligent about this, and she's back (and probably wishing that she *had* had a sabbatical). Gramps is currently going through his share of the bugs lacking milestone dates, and targeting them. I am assisting him. Therefore, I am reassigning this bug to leger, because I know that's what we'll do when we get to this one in the list. So that's one down.

The only products that concern the Seamonkey projects are Browser, Browser Localizations, CCK, Derivatives, Documenation, MailNews, NSPR, NSS, PSM and Rhino. When you query for these, there are 1710 New, Reopened, Assigned bugs, plus 85 Unconfirmed. The focus recently has not been on milestone assignment, but the use of dogfood and nsbeta2 indications. So, many eng mgrs not using milestone system again until after M17. Also, I put together queries for all the eng mgrs for their bugs with no Target Milestone. So, they are set once we ramp this up again. That's about all I can do on this for now.

I'm going to leave this unverified for the moment. At the moment there are 1427 bugs that are ASSIGNED and untargetted (see my query above). Of these about 526 haven't been touched in over 30 days, and 261 in over 60. Not sure whether we consider this acceptable, but it's certainly interesting. Is there any benefit if we sent out a periodic nag on untargetted bugs much like we do with NEW bugs? There are currently 247 bugs assigned to nobody@mozilla.org that don't have milestones of Future. While some might consider it unnecessary to fix, it might help people in searching if we did so. For the existing bugs, this would result in too much spam to fix, so we couldn't fix it until bug #26943 was implemented. For future bugs, we should do something about automatically turning on Future. No bug # on that yet.
In search of accurate queries.... (sorry for the spam)
