Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.receive an email with embedded images 2.attempt to click show images 3.watch and wait... for nothing Actual Results: images never show Expected Results: images should show when clicking show images, or with block remote unchecked using thunderbird 3.0alpha1 latest nightly build

It works for me. I am using the latest nightly build, Build ID 2006071403 of Mozilla Thunderbird. Perhaps this bug should be closed, but I don't have the proper permissions yet to do anything.
It should definitely not be closed. There is something here that is causing the bug, and I have reinstalled a few times to see whats going on. I am going to try to delete some preferences after reinstall to see if that helps.
I have determined that it is definitely a problem with my particular profile. Searching for a cause...
if anyone has any suggestion, i tried deleting every preferences file i could think of, including all of my extensions, and all but prefs.js and mail in my profile folder. concern for possible reason: total message count in all subfolders is well over 10,000. Not sure if this matters, but when i made a new profile, i could see the images when i clicked show images.
Veritas: Try posting in the mozillazine's Thunderbird support forum. A profile-specific bug is probably not appropriate for bugzilla (and I guess that is why Jackie suggested its closure). Since the developers need to be able to reproduce the bug before they can fix it. See if something like this will help you http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=423160 (I was facing a similar (same?) problem and it worked for me)
I can confirm that this bug still exists with the latest nightly build version 3 alpha 1 (20061024) However, some messages do indeed display. Except messages in one particular folder. This folder is not the INBOX, and messages are delivered straight into the folder, via server-side rules (IMAP account naturally). If i go to back to the latest official released Thunderbird, then all is well.
I did add in this property and the images work now. permissions.default.image = 1 however, this parameter wasn't in the current configuration in any shape or form.
I checked my configuration as described in: http://support.mozilla.com/nl/kb/Images+or+animations+do+not+show still images do not show. My system/version info: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; nl; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 When I check Tools/Page-Info/Media I can see that all images have the correct url. However: BufferSource shows not buffered Width and Height of gif file is 0px; Maybe this might help to find the bug.

Okay, I am even more lost after reading your comments. I downloaded Thunderbird 2.0.0.17 today, so I presume I am on the latest build. 1)I cannot find "profile" anywhere in Thunderbird. Not in tools, preferences, help, nowhere. Double clicking the icon while holding down the option key just starts Thunderbird. Got someone to help me drill down through directories to find instructions to start Thunderbird from terminal with -ProfileManager. Now I have a Thunderbird that has NO email messages and do not know how to get those messages that do not display images over to this profile. 2)I cannot find "property" or "properties" or "images" to attempt changing the zero to a one. 3)When these email messages originally arrived I did the "always show images" and put the return address in a mailbox (NOT personal - does that matter?) and the images popped in. However, new mail from that same sender does not offer to show images, just refuses to show them.
isnt this solved? i havent seen the problem in like a year, and im the one that reported it.
