Do you get the browser notification that a plugin is missing? Are you able to install it in that way?
this is confirmed by my experiences. No matter how many times it is loaded and reinstalled, CNN does not recognize that I have a player with firefox. It takes right off and plays video with Explorer.
Running Windows Vista x64 with Windows Media Player 11 and Firefox 2.0.0.1, attempting to run video from CNN produces pop-up window that says "Plugin Warning / No Windows Media Player detected / Button{Get the Player}". Clicking the button produces a new tab from Microsoft that says "Windows Media Player Download / Setup detected that you are running: Windows Vista / There is no download available for this operating system. Please visit Windows Update to check for the latest Windows Media Player updates." Windows update reports system is up-to-date.

I get the same result for other sites with embedded Windows Media Player but with a slight variation. For example http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/video produces a pop-up window "Plugin Finder Service / No suitable plugins were found. / Unknown Plugin (application/x-mplayer2)"

Both sites work fine with Windows XP x86, MP 11, and Fx 2.0.0.1.
Same bug as 344461 [???]
