while in the calendar mode, if I touch "News & Blogs" in the left panel
(even with a right-click, to get new messages, for example), thunderbird switches to the mail view. 

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. switch to lightning, then right-click on "News & Blogs" on the left panel.
Actual Results:  
you can see ur mail 

Expected Results:  
stay in the calendar mode and only do what I asked for :)

This is part of the current design.  I believe the reasoning here was that if you were going to be using any part of the mail functionality, you should be in the mail pane.  Please add your comments and ideas to bug 327783 so that all the "switching between mail and calendar" issues can be worked out in one place.
