The FAQ sucks. Most of the questions that are asked frequently aren't in there.

I've begun work on it in the wiki - http://wiki.mozilla.org/Update:FAQ

Please feel free to contribute, either by commenting on this bug or editing the wiki.

Pondered major severity but meh.

This is meant for commonly asked questions about AMO by end users and developers.
Target Milestone: 3.4 → 3.4.5
Our plan is to migrate this from the wiki to the site as a localizable page. Basil will add/remove appropriate questions when that happens.

I am wondering, wouldn't sumo be a more appropriate place for AMO documentation?

Doesn't look like this is done...

I'd suggest an entry about creating search plugins. A quick search of my email says I've sent this URL (http://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_OpenSearch_plugins_for_Firefox) to 32 people in the past couple months.
Basil, will you be able to work on this before the end of the week?
Moving these to 4.0.3 and assigning to morgamic since basil left.

I'll review the content and try to get a first draft done by mid next week (1/15)

FAQ is rewritten with a user focus. I'll create a bug for a Developer FAQ that Rey can own in a later release.
Reassigning to Morgamic for 5.0.2

The patch works but I think the content of faq.thtml needs tweaking. I think you can commit it though and we can tweak it tonight and this weekend since it's not functionality changes.

I'm not planning on changing it on the wiki because I'm assuming we're going to redirect the wiki page to this once it lands.

On trunk at r22245. ->5.0.3 for tweakage. Wil/Nick - what do you want to do to this?
Target Milestone: 5.0.2 → 5.0.3
I made my changes. I also merged the new L10n string out to the other locales and emailed dev-l10n-web. As far as I'm concerned ->FIXED.
Ok, then - FIXED.

What about bug 467834? (from bug 437150, duped to here to be merged in) There is no definition/explanation of recommended add-ons yet.
Nick???
Up at https://preview.addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/pages/faq; I'm assuming we want to incorporate bug 467834 here, so reopening so we don't miss it.

Added recommended add-ons Q to wiki:

What are recommended add-ons?

The AMO team recommends a set of add-ons which represent some of the best add-ons in terms of utility and overall experience. These add-ons appear on the front page as well as on individual category pages. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and we update the list monthly to continue to show our users a fresh set of add-ons.

Can we get this into 5.0.3 (sorry I was tardy in replying)
Front-page recommended add-ons (aka featured add-ons) are rotated every month, but the category-recommended add-ons lists are not. If I remember correctly from the discussions (and I may not...) we were going to refer to category-recommended add-ons as "recommended" and the featured add-ons (a sub-set of the total of all category-recommends) weren't going to get special treatment at some point. The reason for this blurb is to attempt to alleviate the featured/recommended front/category page confusion, so we need to be clear here (bug 437150). Maybe say:

The AMO team recommends a set of add-ons which represent some of the best add-ons in terms of utility and overall experience. These add-ons appear on the category pages and are occasionally rotated into the list to be shown on the front page. This is by no means a comprehensive list, but rather a list of example add-ons we think users may wish to try.
OK - so just the addition from comment #22? Nick - what do you want to do regarding the FAQ Dave mentioned in comment #23?
I may have to correct myself in-part here, seeing as some of the category-recommendeds do get changed out from time to time. (wiki page lists abandonment, policy violations, brokenness, and staleness as reasons for removal, whereas the featured list changes more frequently) It might be good to link to a longer explanation of policy on rotation in/out of these lists on a wiki somewhere.
Final rev:
=== What are Recommended and Featured add-ons? ===

The AMO team recommends a set of add-ons which represent some of the best add-ons in terms of utility and overall experience. These Recommended add-ons appear on the individual category pages. Some of these add-ons are also rotated onto the front page of AMO as Featured add-ons. This is by no means a comprehensive list, and we update the list monthly to continue to show our users a fresh set of add-ons. Some things we consider when we recommend add-ons: quality, popularity, uniqueness, and whether or not the add-on has already been recommended.
