RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 312010

People

(Reporter: fennec, Unassigned)

Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.1; SV1; .NET CLR 1.1.4322; .NET CLR 2.0.50727)
Build Identifier:

I clicked an icon to launch Firefox while the Firefox software update installer was still active. (Hey, it was right next to my icon for PuTTY. I slipped.)

Opening Firefox failed, with a message about a missing DLL. The software update also failed, because it could not update some files (presumably opened by Firefox proper). When I returned to Firefox after the aborted install the software update informed me I should be looking for updates to Firefox version (null). When I attempted to search for these updates, Firefox failed to respond.

Since I was busy, I just went and installed Firefox 1.5.0.6 as a fresh download rather than attempt to test more or record specific version information.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Install Firefox 1.5.0.5
2. Let Firefox ask you to update software to 1.5.0.6. Accept.
3. While installer is running, click a shortcut to launch Firefox.

Expected Results:
When attempting to launch Firefox, a message informing me that it was busy being upgraded would have been appropriate.
Dupe of/related to bug 312010? (Fixed for firefox 2)
Yes, and null handling made much more robust for Fx2 in bug 302348
