In Linux-Fedora-FC5, I use firefox 1.5.0.4 (simplified Chinese version),
in Peference-high level-updated, I can not set "automatic check updating firefox", and in help menu, there is no "checking update".
I remember there is same problem in lower linux version,
but for Windows version, there is no problem for "automatic updating ", I have alredy automatic updated to 1.5.0.6I

Looks from the Useragent that you are using Firefox provided by Fedora rather than Mozilla.com. Fedora disable software update so they can distribute RPMs, hence you not being able to set the preferences.
Linux distros also munge the version string and apply their own patches, so it's possible that 1.5.0.4-1.2.fc5 is equivalent to 1.5.0.6.
Regardless, you need to be asking Fedora about this.
