Build Identifier: version 1.5.0.5 (20060719)
Cannot find a way to enter account PASSWORD.
Cannot retrieve email from account without password.
Cannot send email to account.
At least "OUTLOOK EXPRESS" has "incoming mail ID" and "password" fields one can enter data.
Where is it in T-Bird?
In surfing web, there's a mention of T-Bird Tools/Options/Advanced/password. But in this version there is NO PASSWORD ENTRY FIELD.
Only options are: General/Offline/Update
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. "Get Mail"
2. or "Write", then "send"
3.
Actual Results:
nothing on "Get mail"
on send:
"Sending of message failed."

See "Account settings" | Outgoing server (SMTP) | Edit...
There is no specific field for password there, but if you have the option to use password checked, the password will be asked of you when you try to send a mail.

The box IS checked. NO PASSWORD is/was requested. When trying to send mail, an error is returned, claiming smtp error or ISP or whatever. However, can access email at ISP site or via Outlook Express. The bug is in T-Bird.

In addition, downloaded T-bird onto two other machines, and verified that NO PASSWORD is requested. Cannot access email on all three machines. (WinXP).

Please give the error message, without it nobody can help you.

SEND MESSAGE ERROR
Sending of message failed.
The message could not be sent because connecting to SMTP server smtp.charter.net failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your SMTP server setting is correct and try again, or else contact your network administrator.
[Ed. comment: of course it will FAIL without a password.]

Missing username/password would not make it say "connection failed".
Make sure you have specified the correct connection type in the box (the one i mentioned in comment 1). Especially make sure the port number is correct, which connection type and port do you use?

Found the culprit - PeerGuardian 2 was blocking all ports.
Don't know how or why it suddenly changed.
Disabling it allowed emailer to work.

FWIW Department: Used Outlook Express to get an error message that finally led me to check with the ISP and unblock ports.
