User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060809 BonEcho/2.0b1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1b1) Gecko/20060809 BonEcho/2.0b1 On the Mac, if you have a bookmark that is in a folder that itself is contained in another folder, middle-clicking does not open the bookmark into a new tab; rather, it opens in the current tab. This is not an issue on Windows. I do not have access to other OSes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Organize your bookmark folder so that you have a folder that contains a folder, and a bookmark in that second folder. 2. Middle-click the bookmark in that deep folder. Actual Results: Selected bookmark opens in current tab. Expected Results: Selected bookmark opens in new unfocused tab.

I'm assuming that in other cases bookmarks open in new tabs as expected?

(In reply to comment #1) > I'm assuming that in other cases bookmarks open in new tabs as expected? Yes. A bookmark that is in a first-level folder will middle-click to a new unfocused tab. Any left-clicked bookmark will open in the current tab. (I can't think of other cases, I'll test them as you wish.)

Opening bookmarks in a new tab from the bookmarks manager should be opening them in new focused tabs. Do you have any releted extensions installed. what configs have you changed to be opening bookmarks in new tabs in the background?
No tab-related extensions (and I experienced this with no extensions). I've changed the following browser.tabs items (listing all for completeness): browser.tabs.autoHide (false) browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInBackground (true) browser.tabs.loadFolderAndReplace (false) browser.tabs.tabMinWidth (40)

With those setting set (using FF2.0) when I Cmd+Click on a bookmark in the Bookmarks menu it always opens in the current tab, no matter what folder it's in.

I'm using a three-button mouse on my MacBook and I can confirm that bookmarks *always* open in the current tab, running both FF 1.5.0.6 and 2.0b2, no matter what button I click (left, middle, right) and pressing or not combo keys. so, I would discuss this bug in some other form than this.
(In reply to comment #6) > I'm using a three-button mouse on my MacBook and I can confirm that bookmarks > *always* open in the current tab, running both FF 1.5.0.6 and 2.0b2, no matter > what button I click (left, middle, right) and pressing or not combo keys. As I play more, I find that is true. Please excuse my inaccuracy in the initial description, I have updated it to be more accurate. However, just to throw something else into the mix, I have some bookmarks on my bookmark toolbar, and those I can middle-click to new tabs. I also have bookmarks in a folder on my bookmark toolbar, and I can middle-click those into new tabs as well.
Summary: Middle-clicking bookmark in subfolder opens in current tab → Middle-clicking bookmark in Bookmarks menu opens in current tab

I'm wondering, anyway, if this could be a limit inherited from the very OSX GUI: I don't know if the Apple Human Interface Guidelines support middle-clicking on menus, and I bet they don't.

I just did a bunch of tests with 2.0RC1 and could not find any behavior difference between clicking on bookmarks in different folder depths. 1. Left clicking always opens the bookmark in the current tab. 2. Middle clicking always opens the bookmark in the current tab. 3. Command-clicking always opens the bookmark in a new tab.

I have the same problem in Firefox 2.0 RC 3 on Win XP Home SP2. It's a real nuisance.
