This is basically the same as bug 305705. That bug was fixed in the general case, but still exists if the <select> element has border:1px (or, more accurately, if the sum of the left and right borders is exactly 2px). I'll attach here a version of Testcase #2 from the original bug (attachment 200450 [details]), which has border:1px set on all <select>s. The problem can be seen in tests 1,3,4,5.

Verified FIXED using trunk Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9a5pre) Gecko/20070525 Minefield/3.0a5pre; I no longer have any issues with the whitespace prohibiting me from making a selection.
