This copy of Firefox began, but never completed the update to 1.5.0.5. The "Show Update History" dialog shows "Status: Install Pending" for Firefox 1.5.0.5 (2006071912) and has ever since about when that update came out. 

Help-Check for Updates is grayed out.

Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce




Only on the one system.

I know I can fix it for myself by downloading a new full copy, but I thought there might be files here to help you.

Several other systems on my network have updated without a problem so there's no issue at the network level. This system has no anti-virus (it's a test system).

Please go to where firefox is installed and delete updates.xml and the folder updates. Then try again. Make sure firefox is closed completely when you delete them.

Deleted updates.xml and the updates folder from the C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox folder, even rebooted, no difference. Check for Updates still grayed out, Update History still says Install Pending for 1.5.0.5.

If "Check for Updates" is grayed out, this means you don't have write privs to the firefox install dir i think.

Nice try, but I'm logged in as administrator, and obviously I have some privileges to that directory since I just deleted it.

No no, Kurt's advice was sound. Just the difference between getting a user's problem solved quickly, and trying to get a user's underlieing problem exposed.

No, not in the recycle bin. Maybe I did a shift-delete.

I also am stuck in "Install Pending" with -- Firefox 2.0.0.3 (2007030919) Security Update
Installed on: Tuesday March 20, 2007, 9:51:21 pm (EST)
Status: Install Pending

A message quickly appeared on my screen and then vanished when the installation was at completion. I remember something like the words "too new" in the message, but recall no more detail. Any suggestions?? Thanks,

Oh, by the way, Help - Check for updates -- seems to be still working.

I am experiencing the same problem with the nightly builds. I think updates stopped for me around mid-February and I did not notice until a few days ago. I assumed it was a profile issue so I created a new one and installed a nightly manually, but I'm still not getting any updates applied.
The updates do download and the next time I start Firefox I see the progress bar but the buildid remains the same and checking the update history (screenshot) it remains pending.

As the bug was originally reported with Firefox 1.5 which is EOL and there is nothing to go on due to the files being deleted resolving -> incomplete.

Reporter or anyone else that is still able to reproduce, please file a new bug since chances are they will be different due to underlying code changes.
