RESOLVED DUPLICATE of bug 297852

User-Agent:       Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060728 Firefox/1.5.0.6

The mail rules should be more flexible in that they should have some sort of "and/or" function when setting multiple criteria for the rule.
For example, if you want all messages with a specific subject like "Bad Product ID" to be moved to a specific folder ONLY if in the body of the message it contains ANY of the following: "4.1.1.4", "4.1.1.5", "4.1.1.6" etc. The way the rules system is built currently you can only set it to perform the rule if All criteria is met or Any criteria is met. I need to be more specific, so that the subject has to contain "Bad Product ID" but the body ALSO has to contain one of the other items. Microsoft Outlook rules can be set this way, which is how I have mine, but when I converted to using Thunderbird I didn't expect this lack of feature. Please advise me on how to proceed.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create a new message rule
2. Set multiple criteria for the rule to match
I suspect this is a dup of a very old bug. The backend actually already supports this - we just need a UI that allows you to do grouping of terms.
Well, if that's the case then is this bug something that is (or going to be) fixed in the 2.0 version of Thunderbird?
no, not unless someone steps forward and designs and implements the ui...
That doesn't seem like a very good reason. I know of TONS of code on the internet that could be used as a template for this feature. Why not just find those and modify them as needed? I, personally, am a Windows programmer in VB/Delphi/C++ Builder, and I know that I could write an interface that provides those options very easily, but someone else would have to actually implement it into the program.
I personally don't have time to do it. That's why someone else would need to step forward and design and implement the UI.
Well, if I knew MS Visual C/C++ code I would step up because I would love to be a part of the development team. However, like I said before, I only program in VB, Delphi, and C++ Builder, for the most part. I have VERY limited knowledge of MS Visual C/C++ coding. I hope that you all will find someone adequate to step up to the plate and fix this. I know, as I'm sure you do, that this is something that will have to be fixed in order to fully compete with giants such as Microsoft for email client marketshare (aside from the money aspect of things, since yours is free).

By the way, have you (or anyone) had a chance to look at the other bug I posted about Templates? I posted both bugs on the same day.
Related to/duplicate of bug 418620 (-> Suite bug 274192)?
