Details

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050702
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8b2) Gecko/20050702

After reading mail via AOL.com in Firefox 1.5, clicked "Sign Off <<screenname>>" in the top left hand corner, which immediately produced a Windows Error Reporting service message saying that Firefox had to close.
Tried it in Firefox nightly release for August 16th and it crashed on opening the mailbox (signing in via aol.com then clicking on the mail link, mailbox begins to load but crashes a few seconds in).
Tried it in Mozilla suite, no problems.
Tried it in FF safe mode, doesn't crash immediately but hangs on a blank screen upon clicking the sign out link. When I try to close it via the "X" I then get an error reporting dialog box.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Using Firefox 1.5
1. Go to aol.com
2. Sign in w/ valid aol screenname
3. Click "Mail" icon
4. Wait until page loads, then click on "Sign Out _____" in top left

Actual Results:
Standard Windows XP error reporting dialog

Expected Results:
Logged out of AOL and take you back to AOL.com
I see this bug as well. It only happens on my Thinkpad T42 running WinXP SP2 - the other home-built PC in the house doesn't crash.

In my case both Firefox and Seamonkey both crash.
I'm seeing this bug more often - Firefox 2.0 and Seamonkey 1.0.6 both crash when logging out,
I was able to reproduce the crash with the new SeaMonkey 1.1 beta.

SeaMonkey 1.1b

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1) Gecko/20061101 SeaMonkey/1.1b
I see this *every time* I logout of AOL/netscape webmail site
at aol.com or www.netscape.net. It works fine when I login and
use the email etc. Problem happens only when I click logout button
or close firefix window without clicking logout.

My system is win2k SP4 + Firefox 1.5.0.7 + sun jvm 1.5.0_06-b05.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.0; en-US;
rv:1.8.0.7) Gecko/20060909 Firefox/1.5.0.7

I do not see any firefix crash/stack file
- is there a way to get one? Please let me know.

Yes - this is indeed a big pain!

- Ram (rgkrishn@yahoo.com)
This happens to me with FF 2.0.0.3 on 3 different Win XP machines - A visit to webmail.aol.com is sufficient to trigger a crash.

Talkback crash reports submitted.
I'm having the same issue on my Win XP machine, crashes on any attempt to exit AOL mail. Using F.F. 2.0.0.3

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to create an account at aol.com, not sure why.
Does anybody else have an aol account which I could try?
Marcia, maybe qa has a test account?

After disabling Adblock and restarting Firefox, I am no longer experiencing this issue when I close, logout, or navigate away from AOL. Do the people experiencing the issue also have Adblock installed?

Firefox Version: 2.0.0.3
Adblock Version: 0.5.3.043

Hope this helps debug the issue. Thanks!
Looks like the combo is Quicktime 7.1.6 & Adblock 0.5.3.043. Having adblock enabled and quicktime on a machine causes the lockup. If you remove one of them (disable Adblock or uninstall Quicktime), the problem goes away.

Firefox: 2.0.0.3

I've got Qt 7.1.6 as well as Adblock Plus 0.7.5.1. I can duplicate this problem even after disabling Adblock Plus. I also have the same problem after disabling all add-ons. I haven't tried from a clean install of Firefox, though.

TB32402328H, TB32402119Q, TB32402054M

What I did notice, though that only 1 of my 2 accounts, the one that was a "real" AOL account from a former AOL subscription has the problem. If I login with my "free" AIM account (actually netscape.net), there's no problem.

I will attempt a "safe mode" test as well and report back.
Same behavior in "safe mode". That is, AOL.com account causes crash, netscape.net account does not. No Talkback this time, though.

The instruction at "0x600d2f37" referenced memory at "0xe8e44588".
The memory could not be "read".

The problem seems to have vanished for me. Suddenly Firefox no longer crashes, either when logging out/closing webmail.aol.com or when logging in/visiting webmail.aol.com.
Yes - it does not happen to me anymore either.
I first removed AdBlock from firefox but it did not help and I did not want
to remove quicktime plugin yet.
But today I saw the message above from Kunal and tried it
- the AOL/Netscape mail interface has changed visibly now
and the problem does not happen any more.
Yeah, AOL seems to have changed their Webmail software and the new one doesn't trigger the crash anymore.
Oh well, I guess there is no way to reproduce this now at all :(
I'm marking this worksforme, because this was specifically filed as a crash for the aol mailbox.
