Build Identifier: T-Bird 1.5.0.5

After T-bird opens, it build inbox profile and displays after a delay all old and new messages. However, after that, if you hit "Get Mail" icon - NOTHING HAPPENS. So, you may have T-bird open for a long time with many messages coming in, but you would not know it since T-bird refuses to check for new mail. This "Get Mail" button does not work. Please fix - major bug. Uninstalled, installed a few times does not help. Please help.

Reproducible: Always

Please fix ASAP
As far as I know, huge(duped, tripled, ...) message count was a result of non-closure of .msf file when repeated/incomplete msf recreation, and is already resolved on trunk. (Cause of .msf recreation itself is independent issue.)

See "Keep it working (Thunderbird)", a MozillaZine KnowledgeBase article.
 http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_working_%28Thunderbird%29
And see also "Compacting folders" which is linked from above article,
 http://kb.mozillazine.org/Folder_contains_few_messages_but_is_huge_on_disk
and read "Problems when compacting"/"Compacting doesn't seem to work"section, then try procedure described there(force ".msf" recreation manually, and get it completed).
Can the procedure resolve your problem?

If successful, read thru article of "Keep it working (Thunderbird)" for suggestions in using Thunderbird.

Since bugzilla.mozilla.org is place for reporting bug(explain problem detail to developers with evidence of Mozilla's bug, and help problem analysis/patch creation), not Customer Suport Center nor Help Center, requesting of help is not appropriate.
If you need help, ask at user support forum such as MozillaZine Forum, please.
Pprevious comment is for problem due to corrupted ".msf" which is mainly caused by unwanted ".msf" re-creation. For example, incomplete folder compaction, increasing number of mail, incomplete ".msf" recreation, incomplete mail download, incomplete mail filtering and so on.
There is another possibility - as seen in Bug 344788, there is a kind of inconsistency problem in mail download settings when Global Inbox.
Do you use Global Inbox? If yes, check settings in "Server Settings"/Advanced of all accounts, in addition to automatic download related settings in "Server Settings" for all accounts.

it's also fixed on the 2.0 branch, and in 1.5.0.7, when that comes out...
Bug I mentioned in comment #1(and David, the lead&core developer of mail&news, also mentioned in Comment #4) is Bug 337815.
> Bug 337815 : Messages don't show; summary-file increases every time Tb opens

Do you mean the "Get Mail" button malfunction is fixed? I note that there are a large number of bugs filed for this problem, mostly on Win XP and possibly originating from more than one cause. I added them to the meta tracking Bug 165832. It would be good to round these bugs up and duplicate them against the appropriate root bug(s).
david wrote me he believes this was fixed by bug 337815. Please reopen if you still see the problem. Closing FIXED.
