If you visit a website that has a certificate error (I use <https://portal.acm.org/> as an example), but you click 'cancel' in the dialog box, then you get an empty page. Maybe it's a good idea to display some inline error message, like netError.xhtml that appears when there are DNS or connection problems. It could contain some more explanation (that disappeared when you canceled the dialog box !), and possible some links to a page that explains it further. Many people might understand DNS problems (mistake in the DNS name or unreachable host), but certificate-problems isn't everybody's cup of tea.

Do the UI proposals in bug 327181 cover this? Is this bug a duplicate of bug 327181 ?

yes it is now (see bug 327181 comment 14 and 16), but it wasn't when I wrote this bug. Whatever ; duping to the bug with the largest cc-list and discussion.
