Description

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060808 Fedora/1.5.0.6-2.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.6
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6) Gecko/20060808 Fedora/1.5.0.6-2.fc5 Firefox/1.5.0.6

When clickin a long containing an email address i.e. mailto:joe@domain.com, the TB compose window opens but the To adress field actually contains the string mailto:joe@domain.com

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Click an e-mail link in Firefox

Actual Results:
To: address in TB compose window includes the string mailto: eg. which To: field contains the string "mailto:joe@domain.com"

Expected Results:
To: field should read "joe@domain.com"

I assume this is a TB problem but it could perhaps be Firefox. I amusing FF version:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.8.0.6)
Gecko/20060808 Fedora/1.5.0.6-2.fc5
Firefox/1.5.0.6

I just loaded this bug into Firefox 1.5.0.6, clicked your mailto at the top of the page, and up came the TB compose window (1.5.0.7) with the correct address in place.

I'm still figuring out Linux. Neither of these versions were installed by the package manager for Debian, just untar'd into /usr/lib. I've set the default mail program for Gnome to be TB, with the Preferred Applications program; that's about it for special configuration. The exact command there is
  /usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird "%s"

I experience the very same problem with Fedora Core 5, gnome 2.14.3, firefox 1.5.0.6, thunderbird 1.5.0.5, kernel 2.6.17-1.2174 and when checking the preferred application it says "thunderbird mailto:%s" and the mailto: cannot be removed in the proper desktop dialog. It can, however, be done if you manually edit the file ~/.gconf/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/mailto/%gconf.xml which is a strange way to circumvent this problem :-)

Ah, this "circumvention" only lasted to the next boot, so I guess the only "fix" I can think of is to manually remove the "mailto:" from the compose window.

Check this one, I've found the problem.. It's a gnome preferences problem =)

If someone can come up with a reproducible set of steps that make this happen, we can determine if the fault setting those prefs is on Mozilla's side or some other program. But coming up with steps may involve a lot of repeated reinstallations.

File /usr/share/gnome-default-applications/gnome-default-applications.xml
is incorrect for Fedora FC5. Error is in control-center-2.14.2-1.

This worked for me. I am going to file a bug with Fedora.

< <command>thunderbird mailto:%s</command>
---
> <command>thunderbird %s</command>

I am going to file a bug with Fedora. This problem is distro specific.

this is a distro bug ... at least it works if thunderbird is invoked with proper mailto:adress. Resolving as Invalid.
