User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/418.8 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/419.3
Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 1.5.0.5 (20060719)

When I try to open a message that has been saved to my desktop from thunderbird by double clicking on it the Thunderbird application activated and a blank compose window appears instead of the expected email message.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select a message and save as file
2. Double click the saved file, if prompted for the application to open the file with choose thunderbird

Actual Results:
Thunderbird opens with blank compose window not message.

Expected Results:
Thunderbird opens mail message as when Open saved message menu item is selcted.
I cannot reproduce this by simply saving and then opening a .eml file, as suggested. However, the behaviour is very close to that of bug 351064 which I can reproduce. In both cases, I am using TB version 2 alpha 1 (20060724)on W2K.
I haven't tested the behaviour on windows, I experience this on Mac OS X 10.4 running the relese version of Thunderbird 1.5. I have also tested this bug and reproduced the behaviour on Thunderbird 2 again on Mac OS X10.4.

Could this be something specific to the OS build of Thunderbird ?

Nic
yes, I see this too - for me, this happened when Thunderbird was already running. I haven't tried it when TB wasn't running. Stepping through the mac-specific start code, we're not actually calling Run() on the nsICommandLine object (or something like that) so the registered mailnews command line handler never gets invoked. Instead we're falling into code that tries to load browser.chromeURL, i.e., http://lxr.mozilla.org/seamonkey/source/toolkit/xre/nsCommandLineServiceMac.cpp#376
