Forgot to mention - I uninstalled Phoenity Modern, went to the Themes site and reinstalled the theme - the doubled xs persist. 

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1.rapid doubled double click of bookmark
2.close one of the duplicate tabs
3.doubled closing x appears on every open tab
4. reverted to default theme
5. doubled x disappears
6. re-installed theme
7. doubled x still there

I believe someone has reported something similar in the comments of the theme:

"I love this theme! I've been using it for a while now. Unfortunately, last night's build makes it have TWO close buttons per tab. Please fix this!!!"

Anyway, the theme's creator has stated "For Firefox 2 Beta 2 Milestone.
NOT compatible Firefox 1.5.0.x and Nightly Builds."

This is probably something with the theme itself.  Marking INVALID.
