create tow standard select (drop down) boxes, one with property disabled
the disabled ones background color and drop down icons color are equal, looks
very bad, compare against a disabled IE5 drop down select field, which looks
much better

what do you mean by the "standard" dropdown box?  Standard on what OS/platform?

I´m using win32, and I think of a standard win32 checkbox, but I thought mozilla
would render all content on all platforms equal?

well in fact it looks better, but is it a fault that the drop down triangles are
no real triangles, they have an additional line of width 1px about them, we have
to stay consistent... the small drop-down menu left to the url-bar looks like
select boxes of size>=2, with a real triangle

Reopening to look at the problem with the triangle, but any rendering issues 
with UI widgets should be filed on hangas and the XBL widgets.

XBL == eXtensible Binding Language, the language used to construct UI widgets.
